The 10-point QA CV check (free)
Run your CV through these 10 checks before every application. Score 1 point per pass. Aim for 10/10.
- The text copies out clean. Open your PDF, select all, paste into a plain text editor. Your name comes first and the sections read top to bottom in order. Missing or jumbled text = the system sees the same mess.
- One column, nothing hidden. No tables, text boxes, icons, photos or skill bars. Nothing important in the header or footer, since many systems skip them.
- Standard headings. Summary, Experience, Skills, Education, Certifications. "My Journey" or "Toolbox" can get missed.
- Contact details in the body text. Name, email, phone, city, LinkedIn URL, on one line under your name. Work-permit details: answer them in the application form, where they're asked directly.
- Your headline mirrors the job title. If the ad says "Senior QA Engineer" and that is what you are, your summary line says "Senior QA Engineer", not "Quality Enthusiast".
- The must-have keywords are there. List the tools and skills the ad repeats (Playwright, Cypress, Postman, API testing, CI/CD, Jira, test strategy...). Cover at least 8 in 10 of the ones you really have, spelled the way the ad spells them. Never add one you can't discuss in an interview.
- Dates in one format. "Mar 2024 – Present" on every role, current role clearly marked, and no overlaps you can't explain.
- Zero spelling mistakes. Run a spellcheck, then read page 1 out loud. Pick UK or US spelling and stick with it (organise vs organize).
- Two pages max, a standard font, a clear file name. Calibri, Arial or similar. File name: FirstName-LastName_Company_Role.pdf.
- Every line is true and defensible. Each employer, date, number and certificate matches your real history. If you can't talk about it for two minutes, cut it.
QA bonus: say what you tested (payments, mobile, data, LLM features), not only how.
Your score: ___ / 10
Tailoring checks 5 and 6 for every job is the slow part. Fitwise reorders your own CV for each job and shows the keywords you're missing, without adding anything you didn't write. Free to try:
